App CrunchThe leading website in showcasing quality iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad apps
- Splice
Splice is a new video editing app, hot on the heels of Apples very own iMovie and it certainly packs enough features to give Apple a run for there money. Competitively priced at $2.99/£1.79/€2,39 respectively and Published by Path 36 LLC.
Splice is a photo and video editor with plenty of features. Upon opening the app you start by creating a new project and choosing the rotation preference, portrait or landscape. The interface is is very intuitive and well thought out, I was able to jump right in and figure out everything within a few minutes of tapping the available options. However if you select the information icon on the project selection screen you can choose to watch a brief video tutorial.
Add multiple clips and/or photos, quickly crop and trim clips down to the desired frames, duplicate frames, add transitions, borders and effects between frames and even add music from your iPod library and sound effects in a time line view. When finished you can then export to your camera roll at different qualities.
Overall final results are very satisfying, however it could do with some additional transitions and the ability to export at 720p, adding these features in a future update would be the icing on the cake.
Our Verdict: Splice is intuitive, user friendly and fast, making it the perfect companion for video editing or creating slideshows on the fly. 5/5
