- SnapTell
Occasionally new innovative apps come along that just make you say wow. SnapTell is one of those moments, SnapTell takes bar code reading to the next level by using Advanced image recognition Technology you can snap a photo of a books front cover and in a few seconds find out where the cheapest place to buy it is. But if it doesn’t recognise the product from the photo there is also bar code scanner inclusive.
Developed by A9 (Amazon) so far it supposedly only supports Books, CD’s, Games, Movies at the moment but we tried it on a few things including a photo of a Crumpler hard suit laptop case which it amazingly worked on. Were guessing it will eventually work on everything available at amazon stores.
I consider myself a fairly savvy shopper always looking for the best available prices and have been known to pop out red laser and start scanning bard codes in stores which as anyone else that has done will know can conjure some inquisitive looks from people and potentially be slightly embarrassing. SnapTell on the other hand requires a quick photo of the item while it’s still on the shelf meaning you can be a bit more stealthy whilst bargain hunting.
Missing: They should include a way to submit photos not in the database a long with a description of the item to speed up and increase the database. The potential of this app is abbsolutely enormous and best of all it’s completely free.
