- PasteFire
PasteFire is a neat free app that addresses a real problem for me and that is quickly transferring text to my device. I was originally using a fairly elaborate set up to do this so PasteFire really increases my productivity. It will accept other files as well as text such as images and there are multiple export options such as sending to:
SMS, Mail, Tweetie, Twitterific, Gowalla, Show on map, Save to local clipboard etc. However I only find the clip board function useful for my needs and prefer to use Dropbox for other files such as images and pdf’s etc.
PasteFire isn’t going to win any design awards as it’s not particularly nice to look at from a UI perspective but that’s fine – form over function. I run the desktop client mainly on a Windows Machine from a secondary HD and I couldn’t get the load at start up option to work form the config so had to create my own .bat files to do this for me which was a bit of a pain.
There is a web app and bookmarklet or a desktop client for Mac/Windows but no support for Linux.
My only other gripe is that it does not send the text straight to the iPhone clipboard even though I have Automated mode turned on I have to launch the app each time then scroll down and tap “Save to local clipboard” first, when constantly sending bits over this extra process is a bit of a pain but it’s still the quickest way I have found so far.
Verdict: If you want to send yourself text or long urls quickly then PasteFire is an excellent productivity app. 3.5/5
