Mayan Puzzle is another match 3 game except instead of moving blocks one space they can move anywhere a long a horizontal line. This can be confusing if you’re used to the usual match 3 type games but once you get used to it, it’s actually pretty refreshing.

There are four modes our favourite is classic mode in which you are presented with a puzzle that has to be solved in a handful of moves. These puzzles quickly progress and can become incredibly challenging our only complaint would be that we would like to see more than the 32 levels included (but were probably just being greedy).

Other modes include Time Trial – select a timer and complete as many combos as you can before the timer runs out. Challenge – select a difficulty and as soon as the level starts the timer is counting down you have to complete combos to keep adding time, great fun and very intense. Marathon – this is pretty much endless mode you can play as long as you want with no timer, the potential of running out of available moves has got to be almost impossible.

Besides the gameplay a lot of effort has gone into the details of Mayan Puzzle, as soon as you launch the app you are presented with an animated menu that immediately sets the era the app is recreating and it’s very authentic. Incredibly there is also very detailed and beautifully animated Mayan backgrounds for each one of the 32 classic levels and loads of cool FX when creating combos. There is also 12 minutes of soothing Mayan style soundtrack created just for the game the developers really pushed the boat out and we think it deserves a place amongst the top match 3 games in the appstore.
