- Express App
Express app bridges the gap and picks up where the official WordPress app is seriously lacking, by offering a seamless tumblr like experience on the go. In a nutshell Express App provides iPhone users an effortless way to quickly publish images, quotes, notes, links and short posts on the go. The only tumblog feature Express App is lacking is the ability to publish videos, There were a few times in my testing where I would have liked to be able to record and upload a video so hopefully this feature will be included with a future update (hint).
Express App from a UI perspective is top notch. The whole interface is beautifully crafted and well thought out. Once you have ticked a check box in the WordPress admin and logged in with the app using a compatible WordPress theme it’s plain sailing.
The biggest flaw of Express App is the currently limited amount of available themes that work with the app. Understandably the majority of themes available are by the authors themselves at WooThemes with very few available from other developers.
Express App have also released a free WordPress plugin aptly named WooTumblog which conveniently brings all of the functionality required for Express App to work. However there is a caveat, the plugin doesn’t work out of the box and still requires manually editing the theme you may be using to add the relevant tags to your themes template. Which may put off someone with little knowledge.
Some people may also be put of by the relatively high price when compared to the average app but should consider the functionality it provides. If you want to run a tumblog style blog using WordPress so it’s self hosted then this app is perfect and easily worth the price in fact it’s a must have in your blogging arsenal.
