Living Earth HD
Living Earth HD is an absolutely stunning app to use. It’s universal so one purchase will get you a copy for your iPhone and iPad. It has 3 main features: World Clock, Alarm and Weather. What set’s it apart from other Weather, Clock apps though is the “Living Earth”. When launching you are presented with a 3D rotating earth not only does this show global coverage but also accurately shows where in the world it’s night-time and daylight. You can also manually rotate the Earth around or select one of your pre defined locations to instantly go there and get access to the current Weather,...
Strava – Cycling/Running
After I reviewed Cyclemeter back in 2010 I have tried many other cycling apps but haven’t found any that can compete on any kind of serious level. That is until I tried Strava. Strava is free and has some really killer features that make it worthwhile. Not as a complete replacement but as an addition to the cycling/running app you may use. What makes Strava standout as an awesome app are the following features. The first is you can set ‘zones’ that are automatically cropped from your route. IE You home, work, partners, parents place etc. This is something Cyclemeter lacks and stops me from...
Steam Mobile (BETA)
Currently “beta” and iPhone/iPod only valve has ‘finally’ brought Steam to the iPhone. You can download it right now and sign up for the beta from within the app. The app itself looks polished and follows the same UI as Facebook and twitter. So far its features are fairly limited, but you can connect to the community. Message friends and keep up with sales. Very promising and guaranteed to be an essential for any Mac/PC Gamers. Sign up now to get in the beta queue.
Hailo – The Black Cab App
Hailo is a free app designed to make getting a Black Cab Taxi in London super easy. It’s all pretty straight forward but executed brilliantly. Launch the app let it use your current location and it will quickly estimate how quickly a cab could be with you in. If you prefer you can manually choose a different location by dragging the map and booking a cab to pick you up there. You do need to register for the first time but once this is done getting a cab around London should be a doddle. I had a chance to test Hailo out when visiting London recently and...
oneSafe
oneSafe is a universal app for iPhone/iPod Touch/iPad etc. It promises to keep your private information safe using 256 bit AES encryption. oneSafe is competing in an already overcrowded niche app market against some real heavyweights such as 1Password/LastPass/SplashID and many others etc. When you first launch oneSafe you are offered to set up a pass code. I like how this is presented with various methods to choose from including a pin code to a unique swipe gesture. And if one method isn’t enough you can opt to have two login methods before anyone can get in. Where oneSafe differentiates itself from its main competition is...
Agenda Calendar
Agenda Calendar 2.0 has just been released and with it brings a universal iOS app compatible with both iPhone and iPad’s. Agenda is a beautifully hand crafted calendar app. The app focuses on keeping it simple whilst managing to execute the balance of form and function extremely well. If you just want a simple way to manage your events then Agenda has you covered. The layout is uncluttered and therefore really simple to follow. But if you need more advanced calendar management Agenda still has you covered with the ability to sync effortlessly with Google, Exchange and MobileMe calendars. One of the things I like...
Sleep Talk Recorder
Ever wondered or been told you talk in your sleep? Partners and friends have been telling me for years I talk in my sleep but I have always doubted them. So when I came across this Sleep Recorder app recently it piqued my interest and at only $0.99/£0.69 it was worth trying to find out. Its extremely simple you load the app set how long it should wait after being started before monitoring and it does the rest. I was surprised at just how well it works. On my iPhone 4 it doesn’t zap as much of my battery as I was expecting either. It works...
Quell Reflect
Quell Reflect is the sequel to Quell a beautiful app that had us mesmerised with its simplistic game play, challenging levels and mesmerizing music. So we were pretty excited when we discovered not much more than a year after its original release the developers have followed up with a sequel. Quell Reflect stays true to what made the original so great and manages to integrate several unique new additions that keep the game fresh and challenging. If you haven’t played the original I would seriously suggest you get both and play it first as its a timeless classic. 5/5
